from Like a Rock 1986 & Greatest Hits 1994 ( Words and music by bob seger ) Stood there boldly Sweating in the sun Felt like a million Felt like number one The height of summer I’d never felt that strong Like a rock I was eighteen Did’nt have a care Working for peanuts Not a dime to spare But I was lean and Solid everywhere Like a rock My hands were steady My eyes were clear and bright My walk had purpose My steps were quick and light And I held firmly To what I felt was right Like a rock …

Guys, I’m in tears…Your post and our life experience is undefinable by words…
I Hope our dreams come true in some respect still. And our fears are not to come to pass.
We are Gen X..
This is to us and those who saw the Vietnam..
I’m 38 too.
i knew these words i would grow into an understand one day and that day is now.
L:ets go back and do it again…
Thanks Bob, Your loved and appreciated..
LEGEND…………..
like a rock i am as strong as i can be. like a rock i shit in the toilet.
that was TWENTY years now where’d they go ?
i don’t know….
bob seger ; a hero i love it . special the guitar
To me, songs like this make me feel proud. Most of the world sits in judgment of us Americans and it hurts at times, but together we can sit back and smile at the thought of this song playing in a new Chevy while eating a hotdog and listeing to a baseball game on AM radio…I may be a young man from NY but dammit, I love America.
wthjrtx1 – Born in ’71 or ’72? if you’re 38 – saw Vietnam? I don’t think so….
Yep, gen X wasn’t the Vietnam era. Boy is confused–thanks for calling him on it.
Well I crashed into middle age but I agree that it is a pretty bad ass song. Emerson is right “It is too bad that youth is wasted on the young”.
my coach made the whole team listen 2 dis it got 2 all us
I was lean and solid everywhere. At 45 I’m still pretty solid, but I ain’t nearly as lean. 20 years, where’d they go. 20 years, i don’t know.
Know what You mean.
Will turn 44 within a month.
Goddamn, tell You this.
We had better music and better women.
Aahh, the women…..
We had our fair share and less confusion.
Cherish it.
It’s not about individual Americans.
It’s about corporations and evil politicians.
I have American friends and proud of it.
Cut out the cancer and be proud again.
The people make the states.
Corporations fucked it up.
Better believe it.
That coach means business.
An old song, no matter.
It’s honest. That’s what counts.
I grew up In Michigan, graduated in ’78…worked a few years at Ford and then moved to CA…Bob Seger ‘s words stayed with me…I was strong as I could be…Great lyrics…20 years (and more) have passed and I still get chills when I hear this! USA & Michigan be proud!!!
“And sometimes late at night
When I’m bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin a ghostly white
And I recall” Seger’s a poet… Period!!!
the weather man
AMAZING!! Carryin’ the weight! The most underrated singer/song writer of our time!!!! As far as I’m concerned, if you don’t like Seger, you are not worthy of anything good in this world.
seger is the man .. listen to roll me away.
best movie ever
Obviousl you should have gone in the service yourself – you wouldnt’ speak to a 21-year vet that way if you had.
actually, after twenty one years in the military, I have more of an opinion about non-veterans who need to be rude to try to make a point than anything else… and to think your profile page touts the Bible as one of your favorite books.
Have a nice life….
hey thanks for fighting for us an all. but just because you killed don’t mean you get to be an asshole because some dipshit on youtube said something.
LOVE THIS SONG FIVE STARS .
