This video was never part of the show, but here at Generation X Live! we love hockey and the violence that comes with it. Nobody did them both better than Ron Hextall. He was probably the most complete goaltender ever to play. From stopping the puck, to his handling of it, so scoring to intimidating the opposing players, and probably being the first goalie to cause teams to change their game plans to keep the puck away from him. To this day we miss his presence in the crease and the music he …

I had the luxury of watching Bernie Parent in ’74 and ’75 and believe me it was because of him they won the Cup not the other way around. Boston was a better team than Philly in ’74 with Orr and Espo and the rest and the only reason they won was because of Bernie. Why do you think he won the Conn Smythe both years? That is the difference. He had the ability to carry a team and he had class not like that barbarian. Parent played on the Leafs that’s why his numbers were not that impressive.
Who the hell said anything about Potvin being better? I said Potvin punched the shit out of him. What was even better was after that shit-kickin he had to skate passed the Leafs bench and Gilmour, Domi and Ellet were all there laughin at him and calling him a queer. It was priceless. I remember watching that game. Looked so good on him. If he was so great why did they trade him? They packaged him off with about 5 others for Lindros. Thet realized he could be replaced…
I would never deny Bernie’s contributions to that team’s success but that was a damn good team as well as being the most intimidating and physically dominating he had playing in front of him. That is enough to make ANY goalie not only look good but also play better. What an example? The backup Wayne Stephenson who filled in for Bernie in 75-76 lost ONLY 10 games out of 66 played. TEN GAMES lost by a VERY average goaltender who then took them to the finals! Not sure ALL the credit goes to Bernie.
Point was genius, Potvin certainly was not a “shitty” goaltender and he was not as good.
You know what was even more priceless? Hextall pointing at the scoreboard in response where is showed he and the Flyers had just kicked the Leafs ASS where it mattered most!
LOL. You are clueless, the Lindros deal included 12 players. Moreover what happened after that? Their goaltending went to shit and they got him back 2 years later where he was instrumental in returning the team to respectability!
So the only reason Parent’s numbers were “not that impressive” was because he was on the Leafs hu? Nice excuse but once again your facts are INCORRECT. He played on Toronto for exactly TWO SEASONS!!! 1965/66 – 1966/67 @ Boston, 1967/ 68 – 1970/71 @ Philly, 1970 / 71 – 1971 / 72 @ Toronto These were the years that stellar record was accumulated. Please get your facts straight. He did not even have an NHL contract in 1972 and had to play in the WHA b4 coming back to an all star team in Philly!
Who cares about regular season? It takes a real goalie to win in the playoffs against the best. Stephenson could beat the likes of California Golden Seals and Atlanta and the Kansas City Scouts but how much action did he get in playoffs. And by the way, the Big Bad Bruins were not all that intimidated by Philly. Just ask O’Reilly and all the other animals on that team. They could handle all that cheap crap that Schultz and those other goons tried to dish out. Who r u? The numbers guy? I watched
That’s just the point genius. He was not that great of a goalie and lost only 10 games out of 66. I don’t care who you are playing. That is impressive and proves the point of how good that team was in front of either goalie.
I have and have seen enough interviews with those same guys you just mentioned saying what an intimidating place the Spectrum was to play and how the “bus would get suddenly very quiet as the building came into view” Their words, not mine!
true legend.
amazing vid and amazing net keep but i gotta say the potvin abd hextall fight was a decent fight to watch it was pretty evan just not age wise
I totally agree with you which is kind of what I was trying to explain to joe7346. He is one of these guys who hates Hextall so much that he can’t seem to look at that fight OR his career objectively. All they see is a cut and get all excited saying idiotic things like ” Potvin punched the shit out of him” and “Potvin beat the fuck out of him”. The video shows otherwise. You bring up a good point, Hextall was much older AND had just skated the length of the ice AND BTW, just won the game.
what is that song name?
I am answering that question so often I think I need to add that to the video as an annotation. Seems having it in the description is not enough.
The song is called “Come With Me” by Puff Daddy from the Godzilla soundtrack.

Hextalls gonna be an amazing GM one day. He’s very straight up and very emotional… Did you see him ripping on Heatley?
