It’s a Time Paradox. Explaining Time Paradoxes might make ones head expload, but here goes:
Garland, the greatest knight of Corneria decided to kidnap the princess and hold her hostage. If the King wanted her back, he’d need to trade his castle to Garland. Making Garland king.
But before this happened, four warriors presented themselves before the king after being discovered by the guards in town. These warriors were all carrying crystals. It goes without saying but they agreed to retrive-
- the princess.
They encountered Garland and after a ferocious battle, they defeated him. Garland’s body, dead or dying, was retrived by the four elemental fiends, Lich, Kraken, Tiamat & Marilith (Kary), and sent back into the past where Garland became Chaos.
Garlands backstory however, as turned out from Dissidia, is that Garland was an orphan raised by Lufenia. But he was taken away to a research laboratory where experiments were conducted on him to increase his abilities. -
- Eventually his mother Lufenia came to his rescube. But he was twisted from the experiments and the fights he had been put through. Before they got out of the research lab, the Void opened up and sucked Garland in.
Garland is taken through time and space. It’s there his fate becomes intertwined with the essence of Chaos and the Four Elemental Fiends.
I hope that explains it for you. Garland is Chaos. I personally view Garland as the first Dark Knight, predating Cecil.
