My favourite music video of “The Phantom of the Opera” Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation Darkness wakes and stirs imagination Silently the senses abandon their defenses Helpless to resist the notes i write For I compose the music of the night (music) Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender Hearing is believing Music is deceiving Hard as lightning, soft as candle light Dare you trust the music of the night.. I saw a 4 hour long documentary about the original cast, it made me so happy to see where Michael came from and how he grew into his role. Same with Sarah, although I prefer Michael’s voice over Sarah’s.
LePhantomessa, yes it would be a win situation if all Phantoms from Michael to Ramin on DVD.
Well, that’s more then enough reason to become a Broadway performer, if you ask me. *wink* ;P
Seriously though, why doesn’t ALW produce it and put it on DVD? He could sell it for $100-200 bucks a pop, and poeple would buy it! He would be rich and loved again, younger phangirls who’d never seen it could fall in love with it, Michael wouldn’t be attacked by other phans (book & movie alike; full mask phans can get pretty vicious) so much. It seems like a win-win situation for all, doesn’t it?
XDitsemily, I love see all of the on DVD make a comparison. I wish ALW would put the London original cast, Michael, Sarah, Steve on DVD. There is a tape version of the original cast, but never been release to the public, only people can see it is they are part of the show.
LePhantomessa, Only reason I had post not because it was great, but there are other musicals out there about the POTO. I never seen Ken Hill’s version of Phantom, would like to see it compare with the only version I know the movie or the cd version Original Cast.
I like storyline Phantom of the Paradise, but hated the costumes, yes it is made similar same way as The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
(ctd), who’s playing Christine. Hmm.
And my opinions on ‘Phantom of the Paradise’ are this: it SUCKED!!!! >:( It made the Phantom campy. HE IS NOT CAMPY!! GAH!!! *throws arms up in the air in exasperation* God, I would rather read two chapters of ‘The Phantom of Manhattan’ then watch 2 secs of THAT film. Besides, there are several MUCH better POTO musicals. Like the one based almost completely on Leroux’s book, or Yeston & Kopit’s version of ‘Phantom’ (later made into a TV miniseries)
So amazing. I wish I could’ve seen Michael and Sarah on broadway! I’ve only seen Hugh Panaro and Sandra Owen, and while those two are amazing, Michael is just perfection. Mmmmm that voice, those good looks!
Now I don’t hate Michael, Colin whatever gave you that idea? I was just saying that, seeing as I’ve never before seen the Broadway version, it would be exciting; as well, it would give me a better idea of what Michael would do night after night onstage. I hope I get to win the tickets, cauase that would be awesome. Better if Michael were in it, but beggers can’t time travel. Ah well.
I know that Tim Martin Gleason is playing the lead. I wonder if he’s any good…same goes for Trista Moldovan
Also the movie was failure financially because ALW change the music style of the Phantom, not same from any stage play. It is like Paul McCartney changing Yesterday to heavy metal piece. Sure he has the right do whatever he wants with his music but it will not sale audience in expectations.
I mean the music director did not notice Gerry’s mistakes in the movie or both. I know Gerry’s fans will attack me from time to time, Gerry’s singing was high school, beginning soloist at best not seasoned for ALW movie or any of his stage plays.
Thank you Colinmcphan, What people who do not understand, Michael had international fame from one role alone the Phantom of the Opera, not one since him receive the same praise, same acknowledgment the awards too.The awards are only given because MC worked extremely hard for the role. Gerry was lazy or maybe his music director did notice his mistakes in the movie.
Cont’d…God Bless to you, caprice6 and “RebelFounderOdogoo”. Gotta go to work now. Lols.
Trust me “LePhantomessa”…seeing Phantom onstage WITH Michael would be waaaaaaay more amazing. I’m not putting down the show and I hope you have a great time at it. Sounds like you are starting to hate the man again. Maybe if you had seen him in SOMETHING or met him in person on June 14th in Long Beach you would see what an amazing performer and guy he is. Just go the the MCIFA main page. They have some gorgeous pictures of MC from the event and touching comments from people around the world.
that movie gives me nightmares
The New York Times-Outside near the hotel’s entrance, however, nobody shrugged. A ticket to ”Phantom of the Opera 1988” could be had, a limousine driver said, for $250. Or $175 if the transaction could be made right away.
New York Times-tickets to ”Phantom of the Opera 1988” were unavailable at any price. ”I don’t have anything to do with that show,” the man behind the theater-tickets counter at the Sheraton Centre said yesterday at lunch time. He threw up his hands and shrugged in response to a question he’d had a hundred times before.

Michael Crawford was asked by Andrew Lloyd Webber to appear in his musical “The Phantom of the Opera,” the English actor and singer assumed that the composer envisaged him playing Raoul, the show’s second male lead. For the next year he studied the character as portrayed by Nelson Eddy in a 1943 Hollywood adaptation of the story. It was only when Mr. Crawford auditioned for the show that he discovered Mr. Webber had the title role in mind for him.
